Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Measurement Test

Kerala PSC publishes no single physical-standards document. Every post’s height, chest and fitness requirements are set in that post’s own notification, under the Special Rules or Government Order it cites — and they differ across posts and across recruitment cycles. Physical measurement always happens on the same visit as the Physical Efficiency Test, immediately before it, and candidates who fall short of the measurement are not admitted to the test.

Steps

  1. Find your own notification, not a general page

    Standards are per-recruitment. Open the notification for your category number — the Commission’s notifications index, or our own copy at /jobs/ — and read its Qualifications section. Any figure quoted on a coaching site without a category number attached is unreliable by construction.

  2. Read the Physical Qualification clause

    Height, chest and chest expansion sit under a heading such as "Physical Qualification" or "Physique and Eye sight", usually within the numbered qualifications list. Community relaxation, where it applies, is stated there too.

  3. Check whether your post also has an endurance or swimming test

    These are separate from PET and only some posts have them. Civil Excise Officer under Category 564/2025 carried a 2.5 km run within 13 minutes; Beat Forest Officer under Category 211/2025 carried 2 km within 13 minutes for men and 15 minutes for women; Fire and Rescue Officer under Category 471/2024 carried a swimming test instead. Police Constable under Category 537/2022 carried none.

  4. Understand what PET is

    Every notification checked cites the same named standard: candidates must qualify in any five events out of the eight specified, of the National Physical Efficiency, One Star Standard Test. Some women’s lists carry nine events rather than eight. The event list and the times and distances differ by post and by gender.

  5. Know that PET is qualifying only

    In every notification examined, PET and PMT are pass-or-fail gates. No marks from them carry into your position on the ranked list.

  6. Watch for your schedule once shortlisted

    The Commission publishes PET and PMT schedules by category number at Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Efficiency Tests. Those pages carry the ground, date and reporting time — not the standards.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Kerala Police height requirement?#

There is no permanent answer. It is set per notification — 168 cm for Police Constable under Category 537/2022, 157 cm for Woman Police Constable under Category 582/2024, 165 cm for Civil Excise Officer under Category 564/2025. Read the notification for the post you are applying to; any site quoting a single figure as "the" requirement is guessing.

Does my PET performance affect my rank?#

No. In every notification examined, the Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Measurement Test are qualifying only. Your rank comes from the written examination and any interview, not from how fast you ran.

What is the "One Star Standard"?#

It is the name Kerala PSC uses for the National Physical Efficiency Test standard it applies. The wording — qualify in any five events out of eight of the National Physical Efficiency, One Star Standard Test — appears verbatim across notifications for Police, Excise, Forest and Fire posts.

Is there a two-star standard?#

Not one we could find. "One Star Standard" is the only tier named in any Kerala PSC notification, press release or page we checked. Treat a two-star claim as unverified unless it appears in your own notification.

Can I retry if I am injured during the test?#

No. The notifications state it identically: if accidents or injuries happen to a candidate while participating in the physical efficiency test, no further chance to participate will be given.
