Medical standards for Kerala PSC uniformed posts

Vision of 6/6 distant and 0.5 near Snellen in each eye without glasses, colour blindness, squint, knock-knee, flat foot, varicose vein, bow legs, deformed limbs and defective speech or hearing are published disqualifiers across every uniformed-post notification we examined. Tattoos are not mentioned in any of them. There is no Commission-wide medical standards document — the standard lives in the certificate annexed to your own notification.

  1. Read the medical certificate annexed to your notification

    The disqualifier list is usually inside the certificate form itself rather than in the qualifications clause. Read the form, not just the eligibility paragraph.

  2. Vision is consistent across posts

    6/6 distant vision and 0.5 near Snellen in each eye, without glasses or spectacles, appears identically in the Police, Woman Police, Excise, Forest, Fire and Driver notifications we examined.

  3. Colour blindness and eye conditions disqualify

    Colour blindness, squint and any morbid condition of the eye or lids are disqualifying in every post we checked.

  4. The physical-defect list

    Knock-knee, flat foot, varicose vein, bow legs, deformed limbs and defective speech or hearing are named in the certificate form for most uniformed posts.

  5. The certifying officer differs by post

    Most posts take a certificate from an Assistant Surgeon or Junior Consultant. Fire and Rescue Officer under Category 471/2024 required a Civil Surgeon Grade II. Driver posts under Category 416/2023 use a two-part form, with the vision part signed by a Government Ophthalmologist. Getting the wrong rank of signature is a wasted trip.

  6. What the Commission does not publish

    Tattoos are not mentioned in any notification we examined. Neither is a general medical-standards document covering all posts. Where your notification is silent, the honest answer is that the rule is not published — ask the Commission rather than a forum.

Are tattoos disqualifying for Kerala PSC uniformed posts?#

We could not find tattoos mentioned in any Kerala PSC notification we examined — Police Constable, Woman Police Constable, Civil Excise Officer, Beat Forest Officer, Fire and Rescue Officer or Police Constable Driver. Widely repeated online, unsourced in the Commission’s own documents. Ask the Commission if it matters to you.

Are flat foot and knock-knee really disqualifying?#

Yes. Both are named explicitly in the medical certificate form annexed to the uniformed-post notifications we examined.

Which doctor should sign my medical certificate?#

Whichever rank your own notification names. Assistant Surgeon or Junior Consultant for most posts; Civil Surgeon Grade II for Fire and Rescue Officer under Category 471/2024; a Government Ophthalmologist for the vision part of the driver posts’ two-part form.

Is there one Kerala PSC medical standards page?#

No. We found no standing Commission-wide medical standards document. The standard is in the certificate annexed to each notification.
