Disability reservation, and the UDID question

Disability reservation at Kerala PSC applies to posts the State Government has identified as suitable, not to every post. On documentation there is an unresolved conflict between two official sources: a 2023 Government of Kerala circular names the Commission among bodies that must treat the UDID card as the authoritative document, while the Commission’s own General Conditions still direct candidates to produce a disability certificate in its prescribed Appendix format.

  1. The reservation is post-specific

    The General Conditions state that a percentage of vacancies reported for general recruitment is apportioned for differently-abled candidates in the posts identified by the State Government as suitable for them. It is not a blanket reservation across every post.

  2. What the 2023 circular says

    A Government of Kerala Social Justice Department circular dated 22 June 2023 names the Kerala Public Service Commission among the institutions required to treat the UDID card as the authoritative document for disability benefits — issued precisely because bodies were still asking candidates to chase separate certificates.

  3. What the Commission’s own conditions still say

    The General Conditions continue to direct differently-abled candidates to produce a disability certificate in the format prescribed in its appendices for age-relaxation purposes.

  4. What we would do

    We could find nothing reconciling the two. Carry the UDID card as the Government’s stated position, and be ready to produce the Appendix-format certificate as well if the Commission or the department asks. Taking both costs you one trip; taking one may cost you the claim.

  5. Claim it in the profile at application time

    This matters more than the certificate question. A claim not made in your profile when you apply is not considered for that post at all — see the reservation guide.

  6. What is not published

    Which specific turns of the rotation cycle carry the disability reservation under the current scheme is not something we could source to a current Commission document. Figures circulate; we will not repeat them.

Will Kerala PSC accept my UDID card?#

Does disability reservation apply to every post?#

No. It applies to posts the State Government has identified as suitable, from among the vacancies reported for general recruitment.

Which rotation turns are reserved for disability?#

We could not source the turns under the current scheme to a current Commission document, so we do not state them. An older superseded order exists but is not usable as a current citation.

Can I bring a magnifying glass or reading lamp into the exam hall?#

Not addressed in the General Conditions we examined. Scribe arrangements are separately published; permission for assistive reading aids is not. Ask the Commission ahead of the examination rather than arriving with one.
