Professional council registration as a Kerala PSC qualification
For posts such as Staff Nurse, registration with the professional council is listed as a qualification in the notification itself, on the same footing as the nursing degree above it. The Commission’s general rule is that all prescribed qualifications must be acquired by the last date for receipt of applications — so treat registration as something to hold before you apply, not something to arrange after selection.
Steps
Treat registration as a qualification
The Staff Nurse Grade II notification under Category 066/2023 lists a certificate of registration with the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council among the qualifications, structured identically to the degree requirement.
Note that the wording can differ by gender
That notification requires registration as Nurse and Midwife in the case of women candidates and as Nurse in the case of male candidates. Read your own notification’s exact phrasing rather than assuming.
Apply the acquisition-date rule
The Commission states that an applicant shall acquire all prescribed educational qualifications within the last date fixed in the notification for receipt of applications. Registration is listed alongside those qualifications, so plan to hold it by then.
Know which body registers your profession
Nursing is the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council. Pharmacy is the Kerala State Pharmacy Council, under the Pharmacy Act. For medicine, the current body is the Kerala State Medical Councils — the older Travancore-Cochin Medical Practitioners Act was replaced by the Kerala State Medical Practitioners Act, 2021.
Check your own renewal date before applying
Registrations are renewable. We could not verify current renewal periods against a council circular, so confirm your own expiry directly with the council rather than trusting a figure from a forum.
What is not published
Whether provisional registration satisfies a registration requirement, and how a registration renewed after the closing date is treated, are not addressed in any Kerala PSC document we found. If either applies to you, get written confirmation from the Commission rather than assuming.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need council registration before applying, or only before joining?#
The notification lists registration among the qualifications, and the Commission requires all prescribed qualifications to be acquired by the last date for receipt of applications. Treat it as needed before you apply.
Is provisional registration enough?#
Kerala PSC does not publish an answer to this in any document we found. Do not assume it is accepted. Ask the Commission in writing if your case turns on it.
Which body registers doctors in Kerala now?#
The Kerala State Medical Councils, under the Kerala State Medical Practitioners Act, 2021, which replaced the Travancore-Cochin Medical Practitioners Act of 1953.
How long is my registration valid?#
We could not verify current renewal periods against a council circular, so we do not quote one. Confirm the expiry on your own certificate with the council that issued it.
