Eligibility conditions on Devaswom Board posts

Devaswom Board posts carry eligibility conditions that Kerala PSC posts do not. Two 2025 notifications we examined — one for a temple post, one for an ordinary clerical post — both state that applications are invited from eligible candidates belonging to the Hindu religion. Reservation categories and the rotation are set by the board’s own regulations rather than by the Commission’s rules. We report these as published conditions and leave the reader to check their own notification.

  1. Check the religion condition on your own notification

    The Santhi notification under Category 070/2025 for the Cochin Devaswom Board states that applications are invited from candidates possessing the prescribed qualification belonging to the Hindu religion. This is a published eligibility condition on that recruitment.

  2. It is not limited to temple ritual posts

    The LD Clerk and Sub Group Officer notification under Category 039/2025 for the Travancore Devaswom Board — an ordinary clerical post — carries the same opening condition. Do not assume only priest posts are affected; check the notification for the post you want.

  3. What we did not check

    We read two notifications out of roughly seventy-five in that round. We cannot tell you the condition appears on every KDRB post, and we do not claim it does.

  4. Qualifications can be vocational rather than academic

    The Santhi notification required a pass in the ninth standard or equivalent, a certificate of practical experience in Santhi duties from a Cochin Devaswom Board temple or institution, and working knowledge of Sanskrit — a qualification set with no Kerala PSC equivalent.

  5. The reservation structure is the board’s own

    Both notifications reference a ten per cent quota for economically weaker sections among Hindu unreserved communities, defined by a 2019 Government Order and evidenced by a Village Officer certificate. That is a category and a paperwork trail specific to this board.

  6. The rotation is not the Commission’s

    One notification discloses that the board proposed a rules amendment in 2024 to bring its rotation of Hindu reserved categories closer to the principles of the Commission’s process — which means the two are not currently identical. The board maintains its own reservation and rotation chart.
